I was working out 5-6 days a week and couldn't figure out why my body didn't look like the fit women around me. I kept trying different workout routines, classes, dvd's and the list goes on! So what was happening? I wasn't paying close enough attention to the fundamentals and foundational principles of exercise. This was one of the biggest ah-ha moments of my fitness life and the realization completely changed the way my body looks and feels today. Upon having this epiphany I began directing my focus on learning proper form and muscle isolation; so it's no surprise that Pure Barre, presented itself in my life.
Recently my travels landed me in Lexington, Kentucky to visit Josh's (my boyfriend's) family. His mom and sister both suggested I try Pure Barre. Pure Barre Lex is one of the first barre studios in the nation, and also regarded as one of the most challenging studios in the franchise. I must admit I was extremely skeptical, mainly because we see fitness trends in California come and go like the ocean tide. Of course It's always fun trying new workouts, however we must look past the aesthetics of our workouts and focus on the core fundamentals from which all work outs originate. Remember a beautiful body is only as strong as it's foundation; much like a house.
We can paint a house, dress it with new curtains, decorate it with decadent decor and create a beautiful home for all eyes to see. However if the foundation of our home is not solid the house will slowly fall apart. Without the proper foundation, we will spend excess money, time and energy covering and hiding the flaws of our "house". How do you build a solid foundation for your house? Along with proper nourishment and sleep, it's imperative to practice an exercise routine that focuses on the fundamentals of alignment, stretching, motion, muscle endurance and muscle isolation. Yoga and pilates are great for building solid foundations, but Pure Barre is the first full body practice I have experienced combining the lengthening, toning and muscle isolation of ballet and yoga, with a functional fitness routine.
I absolutely loved this work out! I was sweaty, sore, and challenged beyond any expectation. This workout pushed me further than I thought possible, which is something I look for every day in life as well as in a workout routine. Not only was this workout amazing, but the instructor, Kendra Fryman, rocked! Her ability to give students personalized attention and maintain control of the class created a perfect environment for learning and growth. It's been years since I've taken a class that impressed me as much as Pure Barre. And as if their work out isn't cool enough, they have the cutest workout apparel! You'll want to make a little extra time to do some shopping in their store! Open backs, bright colors and flattering styles are in abundance.

"It hurts me to look at my before photo because I can feel the pain I felt back then. I was so ashamed and embarrassed of my body! Steph made me realize that I was worth the time and effort!! She helped me learn many things about food and fitness and showed me how to incorporate healthy options in my life! These healthy changes haven't just helped me lose weight...I've gained energy.
